Welcome to debmunroestudio.
As a metal artist, I gather inspiration from simple like the texture on a leaf, color of a textile, or the shape of a musical instrument.
I predominately use Precious Metal Clay (PMC). PMC is a new revolutionary way to work with metal, only introduced into the metal market about 20 years ago. It starts as clay, with microscopic metal particles in the clay. PMC can be manipulated into shapes, molds and textured. Once dry, it is fired in a kiln at temperatures ranging from 1550-1740 degrees. During this process is when the magic happens! The clay portion burns away and the metal sinters and fuses together, leaving a pure metal piece to work with.
As I've honed my craft, I have explored
other metal techniques. In the summer of 2014, I took Textile Techniques in Metal
at Arrowmont Arts and Craft School in Gatlinburg, TN. The 5-day workshop was
an intensive concentration on knitting, crocheting and weaving with various gauges of wire. This workshop was a game-changer and helped pave the way I sculpt with metal and expanded my ability to translate simple things into extraordinary artwork.
